Seeking connection today? Moonday Grounding is live on Soft Power TV at 10am PT and Soft Power Choir is tonight in the Village Sanctuary at 5:30pm PT.
Thank you to everyone who has joined us in the sanctuary and shared your soul’s unique frequency!
We are only two weeks into the Altar Ego season, and let me tell you, our community never ceases to amaze me with the wisdom that is offered & shared within our spaces!
The insights we have heard have been potent, and I am always left feeling deeply transformed. It is an honor to witness the ways two simple words are being integrated, interpreted, analyzed, and excavated for meaning by individuals in our community. The stage is set and the story of Altar Ego here at the Church of Soft Power is being written in real time.
As mentioned in our Intro to Altar Ego call on Feb 3rd (replay here), this season has been largely inspired by decolonization research and scholarship I was reading and working through while writing my dissertation at Arizona State University in 2021.
It’s also shaped by one of our guiding quotes for this season from Dr. Leny Mendoza Strobel’s book Coming Full Circle: The Process of Decolonization Among Post-1965 Filipino Americans, where she shares research and concrete prompts for the “process of decolonization.” She writes:
The project of decolonization for the colonized individual is a process of learning to love one's self again, of seeing one's self as important enough to think and write about, of learning to face the truth and learning to tell the truth.
Weapons of colonization, such as shame & guilt, are used to destroy our connection to our stories, which leave us disconnected to the vessel that houses our stories and the instruments that expresses our stories—our bodies & our creativity.
Because when we become disconnected from our stories, we are severed from our creativity, or our ability to create meaning out of our own personal lived experiences. By losing a connection to our bodies & creativity, we inherently lose a connection to our voices (inner & outer), which can lead to behaviors like people pleasing, codependency, and a deep distrust in our selves.
So, how do we possibly begin to love our selves again when these tools of colonization and systems of oppression are so insidious?
We begin by tending to our relationship with ourselves through rest, movement, nourishment, and energetic & spiritual hygiene. Leaning into our ancestral healing art practices here at Soft Power (such as Qigong, singing, divination, and trance), we set intentions to grow in trust with our selves & our creative spirits, as well as our capacity to receive more love, care, healing, and repair.
Our offerings here at the Church of Soft Power are meant to provide a consistent touchpoint for co-regulation and communal ritual that support each one of us to return to what our “soul knows and body remembers” through soul-sensitive & creative care.
With soft power,
