RSVP here to Summer Lovin’, an Altar Ego Drag Show on Soft Power TV
Have you ever been told you are “too much” “too loud” “too something”?
The messages to make ourselves smaller, quieter, and more palatable are everywhere. As I’ve learned from folks who study revolution and periods of conservatism, these are the times when we are fed messaging that promotes thinness, silence, and individualism.
The art form of Drag, on the other hand, reminds us that we are powerful creators of our realities by using various forms of authentic expression, such as makeup, costume, song, and dance, within rituals of communal gatherings.
An “Altar Ego” is a character, identity, or aspect of Self who is wanting to be loved & liberated through creative expression.
Defined by Dr. Kiernan M. Steiner
When you tune in to Summer Lovin’ live, you become a co-creator of the experience through your presence & engagement in our energy bank (live chat). You also get to be part of creatively resourcing the cast by tipping the performers and/or entering our raffle!
Our attentions are being pulled in many different directions these days on purpose - to keep us distracted and connected to the chaos that is being orchestrated by those in power.
Watching the show live with friends / ABC family? We’d love to feature your watch party during intermission! Reply to this e-mail to coordinate joining the stream. 2 parties (shoutout to Long Beach and Oakland!) have already tapped in.
We invite you to resist the empire’s design and redirect your attention towards the brilliant creativity of our community at Soft Power - to be inspired and connected to the belief that we have the power to transform the worlds we live in.
Why I love this theme
Summer Lovin’ reminds me of my favorite childhood musical Grease, where we witness Sandra “Sandy” Dombrowski transform from the traditional “girl-next-door” to a version of herself who uses her voice & sensual power to declare what she wants.
From the beginning to the end of the show, the audience watches as Sandy unpacks her personal narratives of romantic relationships, the role of being a “girlfriend” in the 1950’s, and reinvents herself with the support of her close friendships and glamour magick.
And in the spirit of being “too much” here is me in my high school production of Grease as one of Sandy’s friends, Marty.

So proud to be part of co-creating this stage and excited to watch all of the performances tomorrow as part of the audience with you all!
