Hexagram 1: Creative Power

Awaken the Dragon 🐉

Lately, the I-Ching, or Book of Changes, has become the centerpiece of my study. Though I’ve only recently begun exploring its wisdom, its influence on the world, and its resonance with my own Chinese and Okinawan heritage has already sparked a fire inside me. Tonight I am hosting Art Alchemy Activation, where I’ll open with the intention of exploring Hexagram 1, Creative Power, as a starting point.

Heaven’s blessing: the creative power awakens a dragon. What had been hidden is now ascending. Take pause before you proceed on your endeavor. Be assured of your course of action before you proceed. Know who you are. Know where you came from. Be humble and modest. Be above reproach - then those whose seek to harm will be rendered harmless. You will become the dragon that emerges from the depths, visible and rising above your peers. A pillar of beneficent astral light guides your movements. You face a moment of choice: the temporal or the spiritual. Endurance and patience will be required of you, as what is to unfold shall do so for a prolonged length of time.

As winter invites us to pause and reflect, this hexagram encourages us to know ourselves—our origins, our integrity, and our purpose—before proceeding. It reminds us to act with humility and patience, as we prepare for the slow unfolding of personal and collective transformation. We’ll use this as a starting point during our journey to dive deeper into an expressive arts practice, weaving oracle cards and intuitive exploration to integrate the lessons of the season.
