What's on the other side of surrendering?

I remember the day (in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic) I woke up and found out that there had been a fatal community choir rehearsal.
As many of you know, I have been navigating an unknown path since graduating with my doctorate in choral music education and conducting. When COVID hit the U.S., I was in my last year and half of my program, and it became clear that singing in choirs was one of the most dangerous activities to engage in. We were learning together in real time what this virus was capable of.
So, I began imagining a life and a world where in-person singing was banned.
It was terrifying. I had just invested the last decade of my life and all of my savings to studying this art form, and all of a sudden, I wasnโt sure what the future of that art form was going to be. But I was starting to see that I needed to re-think my vocal practice and career, if, in fact, singing in community was going to be off the table for the unforeseen future. Now, today, the risk of singing in a choir is not the same as it was when we were first learning about COVID-19, but the virtual world has expanded greatly to make long-distance music making possible.
I began coaching with online entrepreneurs & coaches, sharing more of my story online, and started seeing a new pathway emerge. I moved away from focusing on the constraints and leaned into the advantages of virtual learning & teaching.
I surrendered my dream of being a college choir professor and began listening to the voice insideโฆ
And soon I was being gently guided to research new topics and study from new teachers, which then over time, I developed a nervous system-informed framework for virtual music lessons that led me to a community of visionaries who have changed the course of my life.
โSoft Power has helped me connect with my unique frequencyโmy inner power has been re-charged, harmonized, and amplified.โ
Online acquaintances turned into friendships that eventually turned into dream collaborators, co-facilitators, and now, co-founders of the lay-led secular church of Soft Power. If you missed our official announcement, check it out here! ๐คฒ๐ผ
