Cross-post from Soft Power
Two years ago today, I birthed my daughter my daughter in an inflatable tub in the middle of my kitchen floor. So it feels right that today I share part of the transformation journey I have been on since that cold November evening... -

TLDR: we’re now a church nonprofit & our events calendar is open to the public, starting with Journey to The Birth Realm today at 12p PT

The other day we shared about this Season of Surrender we’re emerging from, including honoring Willa’s transition off the founding team and integrating this year’s lessons as we continue to lay the foundation for Soft Power’s future. Today, we’re excited to share the next step in our journey: Soft Power is shifting from an LLC to a church nonprofit.

Our winding way

For more than 3 years, Soft Power’s Founding Mothers (Midori, Flo, Dr. Kiki, and Siobhán) have been gathering on Zoom to support one another’s spiritual and decolonizing journeys.

As we were all trying to find a “new normal” after 2020, Flo was holding virtual healing ceremonies, co-creating with Midori who was building community around her live oracle readings, Kiki’s voice alchemy work was liberating our soul’s unique frequencies, and Siobhan was supporting Kiki’s initiation into motherhood as a spiritual doula.

Peer appreciation led to creative collaboration and by linking up to co-regulate our nervous systems and witness one another, we were mutually resourcing each other to rise into our callings and build material lives that reflect our values.

At first, Soft Power presented itself as an artist-healer collective and much of the past year was spent building trust as co-founders and attempting to put words to the shared agreements by which we engage, facilitate, and operate.

It was through this process that Soft Power revealed itself to be something far more epic and enduring than what we originally conceived.

A church of Soft Power

Soft Power has been holding sanctuary for connection with our intuition, voices, ancestors, and creative power and we believe we’ve been called to establish lasting foundations for the frequency from the ground-up, or more accurately, from the sky-down.

Filing as a church nonprofit is the answer to our day one question: How can we serve the communities we entered this work for while amply resourcing ourselves? This decision was made over many months of conversation and consideration, and while the path was not without insecurities and doubts, we are now confident that a church of Soft Power is what will make it possible for us to continue creating infrastructure for the connection and resourcing our communities need right now.

We recognize that the word “church” can be activating given the world and times we are steeped in and let us be super duper clear when we say: we are not Christian and are not affiliated with any religious institutions. We remain committed to the spirit of creativity and our own spiritual sovereignty.

Our intention is to communicate our intentions as best as we can and receive our community’s questions and curiosities. Next Friday 11/22 we’ll be holding a Village Town Hall for anyone who’d like to be in conversation and co-regulation around this shift.

Village Members will receive additional communications within the next week as we implement these changes. Squarespace subscriptions will be cancelled and monthly donations will now be optional. We appreciate your patience and hope to make the transition as smooth as possible for you.

As a lay-led church, we are excited to:

1. Open the Village Sanctuary to the public

We now have one Zoom room where our monthly gatherings will take place. Anyone can view our calendar and RSVP to events through Acuity or simply enter the Village Sanctuary at the scheduled event time. Next event is Siobhan’s trance journey today at noon PT

2. Receive tax-deductible donations

As a church nonprofit we are able to collect donations of all sizes and send donors a letter to deduct this gift from your taxes. We look forward to the ways this will allow us to resource ourselves sustainably and expand our community offerings.

3. Bring back Tapped In & Soft Power TV

One of the biggest realizations this year was how important it is that we take our community on the journey with us. Showing up live and connecting on socials is how we began and we want to prioritize that again, especially so you can witness and participate in the conversations we’re having through this transition. Tapped In returns 12/2 as our take our Monday morning team meeting live for a weekly behind-the-scenes peek at building Soft Power.

The path is clear; the vision is big

One thing we don’t really believe in is coincidence, and its certainly not by chance that we landed here founding a secular church for artists. In some ways this choice is incredibly uncomfortable and in others it is so clearly exactly where we’ve been headed not only as a founding team, but through our individual and ancestral stories. We look forward to sharing more of the magical synchronicities that led us here through our artistry.

To found a church when churches were raised on our motherlands to erase and oppress the 7 generations behind us cannot be disconnected from the sanctuary we envision building for the next 7 generations ahead. A sanctuary where all people of all genders, abilities, ethnicities, and expressions of the human experience can feel safe, seen, and sovereign.

Thank you for continuing to be with us on this journey.
